Fire Operations is the largest division of the Lexington County Fire Service.


The Lexington County Fire Service (LCFS) is responsible for protecting the lives, livelihoods and resources of Lexington County by planning and implementing effective strategies to successfully combat loss from fire through prevention, education, rescue, suppression, and investigation services.


LCFS responds to a variety of emergency and non-emergency situations. Firefighters are trained and prepared to respond to a broad array of situations.


Fire Personnel within this division work on a rotating 24-hour shift. When “on duty” the firefighters respond to emergency and non-emergency calls.


The Operations Division consists of 186 trained professional career firefighters and over 147 volunteer firefighters. LCFS is a Combination Fire Service which consists of Career and Volunteer Firefighters working together. 


There are 24 fire stations that are strategically located thought Lexington County to provide fire suppression, medical first response, technical rescue, hazardous material incident response and other life and property protection measures.


Fire stations are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.


In 2012 LCFS responded to over 8,400 calls for service. Lexington County consists of 758 square miles with an estimated population of over 260,000.
