Voting more than once is a felony. Upon conviction a person must be fined not less than $1000 nor more than $5000 AND imprisoned not more than 5 years.


News Release

Primaries Certified, Runoffs Set for June 25 

COLUMBIA, SC (June 17, 2024 ) – The results of the June 11 Statewide Primaries have been certified, and the S.C. State Election Commission wants to make sure voters understand the rules for voting in the Runoffs on Tuesday, June 25.

  • All Runoffs are listed below. Check your sample ballot at scVOTES.gov to see offices in which you are eligible to vote. Some voters will not have a Runoff.
  • Voters who voted in the June 11 Primaries are limited to voting in the same party’s Runoff. 
  • Voters who did not vote in the June 11 Primaries can choose to vote in either party’s Runoff.

Absentee Voting

  • The deadline to return an absentee application for the Runoffs was June 14 at 5:00 p.m.
  • If you applied for an absentee ballot, you will receive your ballot in the mail soon.
  • Once you get your ballot in the mail, complete and return your ballot to your county voter registration office by mail or in person no later than 7:00 p.m. on June 25.   
    • Be sure to sign the voter’s oath and have the return envelope witnessed. 
    • Consider returning your ballot in person to ensure timely delivery.
    • Photo ID will be required to return your ballot in person.

The activities of the Lexington County Commission of Registration and Elections are governed by general state law pertaining to elections. These laws are codified in 1976 SC Code of Laws, Title 7, as amended.

The Lexington County Commission of Registration and Elections was created in 1973 by act of the General Assembly to combine the Commission of Elections and the Registration Board of Lexington County, see Act No. 89, 102SCSTAT(1973).

 

Reminder: 

If you have moved within the county since you previously voted, please make address changes at the Registration and Elections office by completing the on-line change of address form and bring it along with a photo ID with current address, or a utility bill, bank statement or other document that shows your current address to 605 W. Main St, Suite C, Lexington, SC.

June Statewide Primaries and Runoffs are Just Around the Corner

COLUMBIA, S.C. (May 2, 2024) –As South Carolina prepares for the 2024 June Primaries and Runoffs, the State Election Commission wants to highlight some essential dates and deadlines for voters to remember. This period is also a prime time for voters to educate themselves on the candidates and issues so they can be ready to make their voices heard when it’s time to cast their ballot.

Important registration dates & deadlines:

The 2024 June Primaries are on Tuesday, June 11 for both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. You can vote in either Primary, but not both.

  • The deadline to register to vote in person is Friday, May 10.
  • The deadline to register to vote online or by fax or email is Sunday, May 12 at 11:59 p.m.
  • The deadline to register to vote by mail is Monday, May 13 (must be postmarked by this date).

Already registered? Be sure it’s up to date by checking your voter registration information.

  • If you have moved within your county, make sure you are ready to vote by updating your registration.
  • If you have moved from one county another, you must register in your new county by the deadline to eligible to vote.

Vote Early

The Early Voting period for Primaries starts on Tuesday, May 28, and ends Friday, June 7. Early voting centers are open from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Vote Absentee

The deadline to apply for an Absentee Ballot for the Primaries is May 31 at 5:00 p.m.

Vote on Election Day

Polling places are open on Election Day from 7:00 a.m. 7:00 p.m.
