About Us

Mission Statement

Our mission is to invest in Lexington County’s future by responsibly managing resources collected through the Penny Tax. We are committed to improving infrastructure, enhancing public services, and supporting projects that create long-term value for residents, businesses, and visitors. Through transparency, accountability, and community engagement, we aim to ensure every penny makes a difference.

Penny Tax Explained

The Penny Tax is a one-cent sales tax dedicated to funding key community projects. Instead of relying solely on property taxes or state funding, the Penny Tax provides a fair and broad way for everyone—residents and visitors alike—to contribute to the county’s growth.

  • How it works: For every dollar spent on eligible purchases, one cent goes directly toward Penny Tax projects.
  • Why it matters: These funds are reserved for improvements such as roads, public safety facilities, parks, and other community priorities.
  • Accountability: All revenue is monitored and reported to ensure it is used only for approved projects.

Objectives

The Penny Tax program is designed to:

  1. Improve Transportation & Infrastructure – Upgrade and maintain roadways, bridges, and intersections to reduce congestion and improve safety.
  2. Enhance Public Services – Support public safety, emergency response, and community facilities that benefit all residents.
  3. Invest in Quality of Life – Fund projects such as parks, greenways, and public spaces that encourage recreation and community connection.
  4. Ensure Transparency & Trust – Provide clear reporting and oversight so taxpayers know how funds are allocated and what progress has been made.
  5. Strengthen the Local Economy – Create jobs and attract investment by maintaining a strong foundation of public infrastructure.
