Administration & Engineering

The Administration and Engineering Division of Public Works is responsible for the management of the engineering and construction of road and bridge projects, as well as, the overview of the maintenance of the 1,200 plus miles of the county's roadway and drainage systems.

The division works with County Council, the County Transportation Committee, County Administrator, elected officials, citizens, boards, engineers, contractors, SCDOT, and other agencies on a daily basis to address transportation related public works issues.  The division also coordinates with the Airport, Land Development and Maintenance Divisions on engineering decisions concerning maintenance of existing or new systems.

The division is also responsible for the implementation of the "C" Fund Program per policies set by the County Transportation Committee using a priority ranking system.  The current Petitioned Road Paving List contains approximately 335 roads, 240 miles of dirt road mileage, totaling $175M worth of backlogged road work.  Additionally, the division assists other departments such as Economic Development, Waste Management, and Public Safety with "special issues" requiring engineering-type activities on existing or proposed facilities by preparing plans and specifications and providing project management on projects.
